The health centre

In spite of significant progress in terms of access to healthcare (the CMU, in particular) homeless people are still a group whose extreme living conditions and state of physical, mental and moral health are all obstacles to access to and use of healthcare services.

The ABEJ-Lille's health centre is designed to act as a gateway between the homeless and the common-law system. It operates at the 2 day care centres and also at the accommodation centre.

Far more than just treating them, the aim is to take care of people :

-  By offering comprehensive medical care
-  By offering any homeless person who is in poor health immediate treatment
-  By taking the mental and psychological suffering of people living on the streets into account
-  By helping people to take care of themselves
-  By setting up awareness-raising, prevention and health education initiatives
-  By referring people to non-hospital care whenever possible

Specifically, the health centre offers the following services free of charge :

-  Medical consultations
-  Nursing care
-  Consultations with a psychologist
-  Social aesthetic care

It sets up :

-  Screening operations
-  Vaccinations
-  Collective initiatives
The staff at the health centre make sure that they take their time with each patient, so that they can listen to and build up trust in the relationship with him or her.
