To provide support
These people need to restore their human and social links...
Most of the people who live on the street cut their social ties a long time ago… Plunged into extreme solitude, they need to restore human and social links so that they can once again find their places in society. |
Day centres
Overall support means that they can resurface at their own pace: the social and key workers provide individual support helping people to reclaim or access their rights: administering the RMI, identity papers, CMU (universal health insurance), putting administrative affairs in order, or maintaining monitoring and preparation for homeless prisoners upon release. This work is handled by the social department at the Abej Solidarités and at the Point de Repère.

Accommodation/Housing centre
The accommodation centre provides educational support based around a relationship offering help which is firmly rooted in everyday life, psychological support and help on restoring proper hygiene - the aim is to help people to reintegrate back into society. The housing department supports people as they look to become independent and this means looking for and then regaining a sense of belonging in a home to which they will feel genuinely committed and maintain. Each of the people who are rehoused is supported by a key worker as he or she travels along this road. |
Jeunes et Partage (Young People and Sharing) workshop
The “Jeunes et Partage” workshop is open to young people who wish to return to work and go back into a training dynamic: woodwork, organisation of events, humanitarian travel, skills assessment and upgrading, all helping people to slip gently back into working life. This workshop is open to the young people monitored by the Abej, but also accepts young people who have been referred to the association by other social partners. |
Multiservices workshop
One project which offers a more immediate way back to work is the Multiservices workshop, an integration workshop open to people who have been referred by local teams. These people are a long way from the world of work and the Abej and its partners can offer them the opportunity to learn whilst at the same time respecting their own individual needs. The work on offer aims to train future professionals collectively in the fields of cleaning, laundry or catering. |
Cultural mediation
Cultural mediation allows everyone a chance to rediscover the pleasure of exploration and offers numerous cultural outings which encourage self-expression and the expression of feelings and hopes, through informal, friendly support. |
Chaplaincy
A Protestant chaplain works regularly at both the day centres and the accommodation centre. His approach is based on listening and dialogue thus allowing him to help those who need it to find ways of talking about their faith, whatever that may be.
